Would like to know which is better Im planning on Getting a tank over 240 Gallons so wondering which is better?

Acrylic is lighter, clearer, and insulates. I could prob lift a 240 acrylic, my friend and I moved my 500g acrylic, but helped someone move a 300 glass and with 6 guys it was tough. I don't think I'd buy another glass tank except for maybe a sump

Ahh, the debate as old as time. The major drawback for acrylic is how easily it scratches. Glass is heavy as heck and depending on how big the tank is, it may be difficult to move. Once it is in place though that issue is pretty much moot.

I went with acrylic for my large tank because of weight considerations during moving.

I posted in your other thread about glasscages... I got a 300 wide with starphire glass and the only drawback is the weight - it took 6 people to move.

It's clear as acrylic which takes away that argument. It won't scratch like acrylic which is important to me, and it was less than half the cost!

If I had to get another tank, I would probably do it exactly the same because you can't beat $1500 for brand new

On anything over 50G, I personally prefer acrylic. I don't trust silicone to hold a tank together over x number of years. The fact that acrylic is 17 times stronger than glass and that the seams on acrylic tanks are essentially fused together makes them much less likely to fail. For the added strength, I will put up with a few scratches that are likely to occur over the years.

O boy lol I know how hard it was to move my 120 it was PITA. This is gonna be a hard one lol. How easy is it to scratch though? I want this tank to last a lifetime and since its costly I want something nice

If you wipe an acrylic tank with the wrong type of cloth, it will scratch. It is basically impossible to prevent fine scratches from occuring. These fine scratches are not noticeable when the tank is full. The trick is to prevent major scratches.

Do they make a product to get rid of scratches on it or help clear it

also, when wiping down a acrylic tank, you have to be careful what products you use... if its alcohol based, i think it could possibly crack the acrylic or something like that...
