I'm pondering the idea to build a tank. Just curious should I use glass or acrylic?

36x18x24 around 55 gal

Might change the size based on price of materials or how they come.

Very open to how this will be.

Since the tank is small, go glass. It's cheaper to purchase glass and it won't be heavy when you are done. Both glass and acrylic will be cut by the people at the glass shop so there is no worry on that, most sizes are doable.

The size you described is a 65 gallon tank. They can be bought for cheap. Why not buy one?

I most likely will just wait and find a good on Craigslist. Just kinda keeping my options open

Acrylic has every advantage other than cost, and the ease of being scratch. It insulates better, clearer, lighter, tougher to break. In my humble opinion I wouldn't get an acrylic tank because I hate how easily they scratch, and they're pretty expensive.

Is the scratching still an issue on new tanks or is it something that has been remedied?
