Hi I'm new here and I wonder if any of you could give me some guidance. I was looking at the bar that seprates my living room and kitchen

And I was thinking of building an acrylic or plywood/ acrylic tank under the counter top was wondering what would be better it would be about 6 foot L 3 foot H an 2 foot deep . I wouldn't need it to support the counter top but would an acrylic only tank be ok and how thick would the material need to be to support an approximate 260 gallons ?

a 3ft tall acrylic tank will need some serious thickness, bare minimum an inch thick with supports, 1.5" thick would be much better/safer. I use 1" on my 3ft tall plywood/acrylic build and without the support from the plywood I don't know if the 1 inch would have worked as it has about an 1/8 of an inch deflection even as fully supported as it is. As for the build if it were me i would want an all acrylic build (using 1.5" acrylic) in that situation so it would be visible on all sides!

See threw all acrylic was my first thought as well, and I think that's what I'm going to plan for, I've never made an acrylic tank so I think I will practice with a few smaller breeder type tanks before I buy all that 1 1/2 acrylic$

Right now I'm building a 30 gallon acrylic tank made from acrylic sheets that are 48 inches long by 12 inches tall and 1/4 thick to make a 30 gallon tank. I already have the sheets of arylic in my bedroom waiting for spring to come so I can turn it into a fish tank.

This 30 gallon tank is a experimental tank in that if I get it to hold water for a few months I plan on ordering 3/4 thick acrylic sheets to build a 470 gallon acrylic tank. This super tank will be two feet deep and four feet wide and eight feet long built to to the common dimensions of commonly sold cast acrylic sizes.

This same 470 gallon tank idea I have could grow to 700 or 900 if I find six foot wide by eight foot long cell cast acrylic.

I have done several calculations and any fish tank larger then 600 gallons would be cheaper to build out of cinder blocks and acrylic then acrylic alone.
