redoing my tanks and I want to add moonlighting. I've done LED's on two tanks previously and it worked out well enough except that I should have used a few more LEDs for good nite time viewing...for me, not the fish:)...Could go with LEDS again, but it requires a bit of wiring and DIYing and I'm a busy guy. (ain't we all) I have a couple of old, but working single lamp T12 fixtures in the garage and my thought was for something quick and simple to drop actinic tubes in them and use them for nite time viewing........Good idea, bad idea??? Yes, they'd use lots more power than the LEDs, but I could swap in the bulbs and be up and running in 5 minutes without having to build the LED fixture. What do you think? Anybody doing that on a freshwater setup??

I'd go with LEDs. They give a really cool shimmering effect at night. But if you can, use white LEDs, much nicer than blue. Blue lights are gross on freshwater tanks, in my opinion at least :)

I agree, think the lights might be too bright to simulate nighttime, at least not like blue LEDs would ...
