Active Carbon

How long is active carbon good for? How often should I change it.

It is good for only a couple weeks in a heavily stocked tank, maybe a month in a lightly stocked one, it is not recommended for cichlid tanks.
I consider it a waste of money. A lot of people here, myself included do not use it except to clear out meds. I use the fiter space for more bio-media.

Mine always does, i havent used carbon in months.

Should last about a month...You dont need it waterchanges accomplish the same thing it is for only better.Years ago people used carbon and not many waterchanges,fish grow slower and are more difficult to get to breed.

I use 100% polyester stuffing from wal mart. I just pack it into where the carbon used to go.
