I am planning on getting an 120 gal aquarium and am wondering what I should put in it. I don't want a bunch of differrent species like a community aquarium. I have some red-bellied piranhas and like them but they just float around. I would like a really active predator for this tank.
Some species that I am interested in are: freshwater barracuda, wolf fish, arowana, sabertooth tetra, snakehead, oscar, other more active species of piranha, or any other active predator.
Any Suggestions?

If you wanna give brackish a try Columbian Sharks are really active.

if you want bang for your buck go native, they are amazing and interesting, you can get some cool predators, nothing nastier then a big fat large mouth bass.

natives are awesome gotta agree, but a LMB is gonna outgrow that tank eventually and the last thing you want is a ticked bass knocking off your lights and canopy. you could always go with a bullhead and a few crappie or bream though.

theres also a vast array of SA cichlids you could try. and bichirs are pretty interesting as somebody already mentioned.

Yeah, I thought about natives but I don't know where I could find them really small.
Also, does anyone know anything about the fish I mentioned?

Illegal

The other two I don't know for sure so not going to comment on them.

What about a single fahaka puffer? That would fit the bill and would do well in a 120.

Also, welcome to MFK and what part of Minny are ya in?

I may be wrong but i did not find one site that said the FW barracuda gets too big for a 120... I looked it up (because I do not know from personal experience) and the biggest minimum tank size I saw was 90...

As for the wolf fish... not very active (no clue about sabertooth tetra but I was under the impression that they are very frail)

I was pretty sure snakeheads were illegal.

I have read that freshwater barracuda species Ctenolucius hujeta and Acestrorhynchus falcatus only get about a foot long

In my expierience with fish that can supposedly grow from a foot to two feet they stay plenty small for the 40 gallon aquarium that I keep them in when I only feed them once a day, and I have read that fish only grow as big as feed them to get. So I was wondering If anyone has had any success keeping arowanas within the 10-15in. range.

I can't find any information about sabretooth tetras but have found them for sale at several sites. Does anyone know about them?
