OK...so while at work today (in a hospital), I accessed the medical databases. I admittedly only looked at the Cochrane reviews. This a compilation and analysis of all studies done on a certain topic and is highly regarded. There were probably 25 entries...but most of them were protocols meaning they were looking for studies. There were a few reviews...but almost all I looked at said there were not enough QUALITY studies to make an interpretation of the data and no recommendations could be made. So, either the studies were too small, were not controlled or randomized or whatever. I found one review where it was shown to be as effective as meds for prevention of migraine.
So, I stand corrected...it is not scientifically proven to be effective. However, based on case study evidence...mine and numerous others...it is worth a shot.
It is not painful, in fact after you go a few times, you actually begin to get an endorphin release and it is like the most realxed 50 minutes you will spend all week!!
Just find a qualified practitioner. Ask your MD...many are suggesting it for adjucntive therapy for MANY chronic conditions. Most practitioners are extremely ethical and if you are not seeing results quickly will tell you they should no longer see you.
If you are already considering it...give it a try what have you got to lose?
