in your experience if a stingray does not ship well example possibility of ammonia poison how long can this last before its the end of there fight and they die. i am experiencing one ray that is on its way out. it has been eating until two days ago and has never regained original color has stayed dark in color. so i know there has been something wrong from the first week. i have had this ray for about 4 weeks. i feel this is the initially risk of any wild caught ray we just don't know 100% on health condition we can just go on assumption of appearance and possible history witch most likely is a history of a couple weeks witch is not much to go on. it is uncomfortable to watch a slow death but unfortunately this happens.

From what I've seen in many fish, ammonia poisoning can last a long time after acclimation.. Fish get a health issue called hyerplasia, and I am assuming that same type of damage can be applicable to the gills/spiracles of the rays.. not really sure though.

Like you said not much you can do.. sometimes rays will have obvious symptoms that you can treat for, but wild caught rays right after shipping can have mixed results..

what ray is this john??? the other male with the things in its gills???

no Nic this is another my most recent ray. it too has some thing on its gill slits. i talked to the guy i got it from and his vendor says possible leaches he has seen some of his fish from this catching area with them. i don't know little info. if this one goes i am going to have to take a look? it is interesting but sad how a ray can keep weight eat healthy then just a matter of days quickly waste away who knows how long this ray has been unhealthy what a slow death. good signs of advanced curl i would say gone by tonight. the good news though is there has been a lot of activity in one of the ponds so maybe some little marbles in the future.

Sorry to hear that. I sucks even more when you are powerless to help it in any way.
