Over look my stock on my 240g. The oscars are about 9inch and the other oscar is about 5. The LMB is 5 the ck is 1foot, The 2 koi are around 4-5. .. I only have the fx5 but want to OVER FILTER the hole tank... maybe 2xac110 and a W/D... IF i do this can i add more fish to the tank? Now Look at my Stock for the 60g. Im looking to add the Maybe one or 2 from the 60 into the 240 when they get 5inch. All 60g are under 3inch. Which do u think will be best to add? Oh and i just picked up a Cichla temensis which is going to go into the 240. What do you all think. if i over filter can i add some of the fish?

To a certian extent you can...especially with added bio-mass and water changes but the risk you run with a heavilly stocked tank is that your always just one tiny step away from disaster. A lightly stocked 240 can support the fish for a good 4 hours or so in the case of a power outage or filter failure but an overstocked one becomes deadly in as little as 30 minutes. IMO it's always best to assume the worst and plan for it rather than count on technology to keep your fish alive.

One last note about having that much bio- filtration... as soon as it dies...as from a power failure it poisens the water...and the more you have...the faster it happens

Its been a year sense the last longer power outage.(rolling back out days).. Most of the time its just a reset. some thing fails and another takes over. I love to get another massive tank... but i dont have the room anymore for anything over 18inch wide so i hit another wall... maybe i give up on the 2koi? they are messy and pegs. and add the Pbass when his bigger to the tank.

Personally I'd concentrate on fewer select fish and bump up the margin of safety...just because it hasn't happened in a while is no reason to assume that it never will...you could trip a breaker...or fry the board in the FX5...or get something caught in one of the AQ110 intakes. Once that much of your bio filtration dies you run the risk of losing the rest.

We have a lot of technology in our tanks as well but we also have air driven sponge filters capable of sustaining the tank on battry back up at all times.

Theres nothing on earth quite as frustrating as raising a tiny fry into a two long monster and having it for 15 years and then losing it to something that could easilly have been avoided.

Adding more filters does not always mean you can add more fish. Reason? Filters do not get rid of nitrate. If adding more fish, the current filters can usually handle it's job. The only change is going to be doing more water changes. Increase your fish load = increase your work load.

Over filtering is the name of the game. And send me those koi :D

I have a before and after shot... Funny how fat one has gotten... ill try and net them when i change the water tonight and take a pic and show u shompers... i love koi from the start but seeing how my pond failed me 3 times and had to level the ground back out.... i might have to give them up...

Ya i think over Filtering is the name of the game. I just got one ac110 and going to load it with Am remover :) Oh and i just lost my Temi in my 60tank so :(

That's odd, I just lost one of my Temensis too. They were in perfect condition and then 24 hours later, one was dead. I found it early in the morning breathing hard and upside down on the bottom of the tank. I put it in a ten gallon hospital tank and treated it with meds. It hung on all day soaking up the meds but slowly died by evening. :( It was 10.5 inches.
