When doing water changes, does it matter that I mixed the aquarium salt into the water, before I put in the Primer? Usually I add the aquarium salt about 10 minutes after the Primer, but today I had a brain cramp, and added the aquarium salt already. Please give your opinion.:D Tia.

Primer? You spray painting? Or you mean Prime?? ;)

I would add Prime first, so it can immediately start working on the chlorine/chloramines, since that is what can kill your fish. It's unnecessary to add salt anyways, so it doesn't matter when you add this.

maybe they are sponsored by the manufacturers of the aquarium salt. Seems thats its only really useful/needed when treating fish for ailments. Only chemical that ever goes into any of my tanks is dechlorinator. If your tank is established, even prime seems overkill to me. IMO Prime is most useful when transporting fish, but since it also removes chlorine it should be added to water first.

Prime usage is not over kill. Unless your water is well-water and doesn't come from the city water supply. Otherwise the chlorine is nasty. Mine has so much chlorine I can smell it any time I run the cold water! Wouldn't go with out Prime or some kind of de-chlorinator.

I wasn't saying to not dechlorinate, but prime does other stuff like lock ammonia. Not thats its bad but those added effects on an established tank are not needed. Removing chlorine is essential, I only use dechlorinator in my tank, that's all I was saying.

Thanks for answering my question MFK's! Very much appreciate your help. Going to go do my water changes now, since I know it will be fine! :D

What? What is your basis for this statement? What about those with chlorine/chloramines in their water? Perform a big enough water change with tapwater and no water conditioner and you could kill your fish. Overkill? I think not.

As for salt, there really is no need. Lots of people have kept fish for years without ever adding salt, like me. I used to add it, but then I stopped when I really couldn't figure out why I was adding it. IMO, salt should only be used when treating fish.
