So with the arrival of my new tanks being imminent (3 months) I'm starting to consider the stock. Really my question is cichlid based stock, not dither at this point. With no additions my 125 will have my JD, EBJD and bleekeri and my 75 will have my red severum and chocolate.

I'll start with the 125. I feel like it's a big tank (compared to my 55 now) but I know it's really not. I'm struggling with the thought of if I should add 1 more to bring the cichlid total to 4. If I did I'd probably want a GT or... A lady friend JD for my male... Like I said, on the fence cuz of the destruction I know could occurre... Any thoughts?

Now for the 75. I'd love to add some (one or two) HRPs or my fiancé is interested in geophagus type fish (which I know nothing about). Either of these reasonable or would that just be too much aggression?

Both tanks will probably get some small dither and maybe some loach/birch/catfish for the 125, still got 3 months to decide. Anyways, thanks for the input, look forward to reading responses in the morning!

If you want a JD pair, I'd put them in the 75 and move the severum and chocolate to the 125. The EBJD would get punked by a breeding pair, and the chocolate will need the 125 in the long run.

I wouldn't even be entertaining the thought of adding anymore stock let alone breeding until the tanks are there and you have your current aggression issues under control. No matter how many times you ask people on here aren't gonna change they're opinions and tell you something will work just coz it's what you want to hear. I still feel the worst is ahead of you due to the fact your paratilapia is still no where near mature size. As for adding a female to pair off with your male jd I can't really see the point in this unless you are wanting to raise fry , if not is it really worth the aggression and stress on your fish and yourself? It's up to you what you do man but like I've been trying to say no matter how many ways you look at it or word it differently what you want is probably not going to work. Why not save up for a bit longer and get a 180 instead of 125?

Good advice

I would look to break up the group you have in the 55 that choc and sev would eventually need something bigger than the 75. I would move all my stock around and figure a way to get the choc and sev in the 125. Never kept paratilapia but i would ask others that have kept it if the 75 gal would be enough for him and keep the sev, choc, jd, and ebjd in the 125 and hope the ebjd continues to compete. No way would i add a female of anything to this mix. I cant imagine the 180 is that much more than the 125. Its a much better tank i regret not doing this when i got my 150.

Where do you plan on andding the loaches bichir catfish combo ? Loaches need to be kept in a group and are really slow growing if your talking about clowns they get really big if you are patient enough but a 125 though bigger than what you have now really isnt a big tank in the long run. A single bichir may be ok but it should one of the smaller growi g cb upper jaws and even then i still would just leave things be

Plus whats your filtration in the 125 gonna look like ?

Couldn't have said it better. Get the tanks, then worry about how/when you're going to stock them.

As much as I'd love a 180, the 125 is going to have to do. I still live in an apartment so space is limited and a 125 is pushing it. Plus I'm getting the 125 with stand, hood and lights for 50% hopefully... And that's brand new ^.^ anyways, seems I'm hearing wait till I move everyone then see.

Oh, and for filtration I'm looking into details of doing a wet/dry sump.

Update: Now considering chocolate, red severum, EBJD and bleekeri in the 125 (with light dither) and the JD and a lady friend in the 75. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't worry about dither fish because anything you add would have to be to big to eat and at that size they would just add to the bioload.

The choc, red severum, and ebjd will work. I dont know about bleekeri, I have no experience with them.

With a big enough tank I know they can work, just not in that size. My LFS has all 4 plus several other fish in a 1000 gallon tank. That was worded weird but basically I'm wondering proportion wise if it'd work.
