Instead of getting plecos, could always go with a group of otto cats. Take up less space and primarily eat algae.

I just got some more kuhlis (striped, not sure which pangio sp) and they are happier in groups of 4+. Could also get dojo loaches (or weather loaches). I have one of those also, they get much bigger then kuhlis though, 6 or so inches.

Don't have any exp with rams, though I've heard good things about them. Gouramis are aggressive and not worth the trouble imo. Males are very territorial. Pearls are supposed to be less aggressive. Was going to get a group of females for my community tank but am still thinking about it.

Ya gouramis aren't a good idea. I had a male blue gourami once in my first tank (30 gallon) they can definetly defend themselves! Got another blue gourami about 5 months ago and had it in a 15 gallon growout with an Oscar growout. Needless to say, my Oscar got his butt kicked! Not really "community" fish unless you get one with a great personality. Good luck! :D
