I have a 110 with 2 bola shark grown, 2 clown loaches, 1 rainbow shark, 1 pleco. Well the tank has been up and running for about 5 years with the same fish in it. My nephew brought me 2 goldfish he won at the fair tuesday and ive had 1 before for i just put the bag in for 30mins and let the fish go in the tank. the gold fish died with in 36 hours. the day after the gold fish died i noticed the bola sharks wouldnt spook and one of them the eyes looked cloudy. later that day the same shark was upside down i picked it up and got him going again and it would swim for a few sec and just give up and flip upside down. it died within a hour. last night I did a 40% water change and this morning the other bola shark was dead and the rainbow was swimming upside down sideways slowly. it died within a few hours. now the i added seachem kanaplex now the one of the clown loaches is acting up not swimming right. what is wiping out this tank?

Possibly the goldfish were harboring parasites, bacteria infected , and releasing the goldfish along with the contaminated water caused whole tank to become infected.

+1 fair ground goldfish are not a good source of fish , my guesses are they've brought a disease of some sort into your tank , are there any obvious signs of illness on any of the fish ? Fungus , whitespot etc

OUCH!

The GF from the fairs/carnivals around here come from our lfs.
I know this because there was a carnie in two years ago that bought 200 feeders for the fair. Made the shop owner mad when he asked for all orange GF out of the three feeder tanks.
So ya ya probably got infected feeders. Not to mention the carnie's not only don't keep these fish well they don't care.

Don't know what ya got in the way of killing your fish but man that sux, good luck getting it straightened out.

+2 it was in the water with the goldfish in my opinion. You're probably going to have to start all over from scratch....Take it as a lesson learned don't add fish without quarantining them first.

It's quite possible that the bag itself caused this.

Was your nephew wearing sunscreen, or insect repellent? Is it possible that he left soap residue on the bag, or along the way that bag was exposed to some other form of toxin? Ditto to the carnies hands, who knows where his hands had been prior to handling that bag.

Most ectoparasites, bacteria, etc, do not kill fish within 48 hrs of exposure. I would suspect a toxin was introduced to that tank, but anything is possible and no one here will be able to answer your question with any real certainty. When the last fish is gone you'll probably want to tear your system down, and bleach everything. Then invest in a quarantine tank. Good luck.

Thank I lost my 4inch clown loach this morning and it looks like the other one is hiding but is losing his color. all the fish i pull out and right before they die has a white fuzzy stuff covering them. i will be using this tank as qt for now on. tips on cleaning everything.

Make sure to read both comments. Due to the odor I would personally avoid bleach if possible and go with the salt & let dry method. If odor isn't a problem you could also do both, start with bleach & finish off with a heavy salt solution running for 24-48 hrs. If this happened due to a toxin then things become more complicated as soap residues etc can linger on, so some serious scrubbing & rinsing would be in order.

Good luck.

i think im going to pull out all the gravel and boil it for 30+ mins. the decorations i might just throw away or boil them. i have a large saltwater tank i just might put to water over in it for a few days to a week let it run. then freshwater vinegar soak tank and pump. finally do a hand rinse, scrub, rinse, and let it sit outside and dry for a few days. does that sound good?

I think that should do the trick. Just make sure to let everything dry out really well.
