i have a 135 gallon fish tank (72" 24" 18") the current stock list is a 7 or 8 inch oscar, 4 inch JD, 3 inch tex., 7 inch pleco, 3 inch rapheal, 3 inch blood parrot, 4 inch blood parrot now the texas might not be in the tank much longer due to how aggresive he is but the oscar and JD are both very passive fish and have never harmed another fish same with the blood parrots i would really like to add a jag to the tank but im wondering is the jaguars agressiveness overated? or are they as agressive as people say? if i baught a smaller one do you think i will have a problem if he grows up with the other fish so i would love some feedback and advice wheather its a stupid idea or if it would work

thank you

no if you think the texas is too aggressive dont get a jaguar, they will kill each other. most likely you would end up with a one fish tank, and the jag would be the last standing.

They are as "aggressive as people say", otherwise why would people say it? ;) Still it may be worth a shot. Do like you said: Get a small one and let it grow. Just monitor carefully for signs of aggressions and be prepared to separate in case any signs become visible

I have a 5 in male jag that is an absolute terror. I cant keep him anywhere but my 125, where he is the runt. He even causes trouble in there. I would not recommend a jag for a "lets try it" species. When things go wrong with Jags, nothing is mild.

I think your tank is pretty full as it goes. I wouldn't add any more fish to that setup. Adding cichlids is always risky even when there isn't a population issue. And yes Jags are as aggressive as people say.

thanks for the replys im still not sure. the texas is going anyway as far as that goes and i dont know how much longer the depseys gonna be there so i would have room for another fish any sugestions?

Since ur getting rid of the JD and Tex....

It's possible to try out a juvenile Jag like 3" or so and let it grow. Jags can be killers because their bodies are capable of doing major damage, but there's always mellow ones too if your tank has enough space.

It could work in a 135 (the 6 foot long tank helps alot ;) I've seen it done in a 125 before and there were 2 large Jags actually) but just don't be surprised if the Jag starts to kick ass once it gets larger. :)

Make sure the jag starts out as the smaller one out of them all...just more likely it can live with them and you can make choices along the way if it does turn more aggro.

Jags are impressive looking fish and if you can get one to live in your community it's awesome!:headbang2

if you are gettin rid of those fish then yeah the jag is no problem..you could probly do him in there with them know...you never know he may be alright wit them in therre..
