hey i just a new baby ray, been changing water every morn to get rid of tail fungus, now i've noticed i have ammon, i've never had ammon! would the addition of this ray spike this level? its just a very juvenile ray? the water changes are about 25%, maybe i'm changing to much and starting the bactieria process over. all rays are fine still even the juvy! i swear i have the hardiest retics in the world, if i didn't test i would not have known the difference with them, hte ammon level was .5-1.0, 0 nitrite, i always have nitrate levels, pretty high ones at that, i don't even test those anymore!

Check your pH level...The added ray waste coupled with your frewuent water changes may have affected the balance. I know my pH is low when i see a little bit of ammonia. Raising it up usually does the trick as long as it's not low for a long time.

ph is 6.4, its usually 6.0, i may have missed a couple of scoops with the water changes, the fungus is beaten i think i'm gonna chill with the water changes (i just finished a water change b4 typing this, it was a reaction to seeing ammon level!) i was going to get rid of my 15" shovel but his dumbass ran himself into the wall again and he has a broken snout or nose, red underneath and bent upwards, dumbass!!

Infected fish can cause stress to other tankmates, it would be best IMO to move the cat to a QT tank and releave some stress on your ray as well.

While immediatly .5-1.0ppm of ammonia may have no ill affects I believe, with a retic especially, it could lead to some serious problems. I did a water change and for some reason my water company added more ammonia then normal to my tap. Long story short my ammonia went up to about .25-.5 in my tank for a day or two untill the bacteria could take care of it. I lost my retic five days later, my motoro on the other hand never showed sighns of stress...

Retics are very susceptible to water conditions when small. Larger ones tend to be a little bit more resilient.

Glad to hear :).

I agree with David here.

I usually change about 75% of my water everyday in my motoro pups tank to get them settled faster. This has worked even for newly arrived rays. :)
