I'm looking at adding an arowana to my 300 gallon ray tank, i've kept silvers, jardini's, and an african aro so i'm, not looking for them. I'm thinking of doing a Black or Lei, does anyone have any advice on which is better with rays ??? I'm torn on which one i want and looking for some input.

Jars and Leis are pretty damn aggressive. Go with a black, they are a lot more docile.

just make sure the aro is 12inch or bigger or it may end up as ray food

blacks are great w rays. i actually just picked one up :D

ive never owned a lei, but i hear they can be almost as aggressive as jars

All aro's can be aggressive, depends on the actual fish. My 13-14" Leichardti for the most part leaves my Motoro trio alone.

I've never had luck with Jars or Leis. I've owned quite a few and they have all been very aggressive. I'd go with the black. Good luck.

I think i might go the black route, the last thing i want to do is drop 2-3 hundred for a large Lei and find out it's mean and won't work with my rays.. At least the blacks are pretty calm from the sounds of it.. Now i just have to find a 12" + Black, that should be fun..lol

I've had my black with my rays since I got both. The black was 6" when I got him and is now ~10". Haven't had any problems what's so ever.

I take it silvers are too common for you? I've always kept silvers with my rays without a hitch. I feel you on the commonalities of plain silvers though if that is your concern. Consider a high shine?...
