This is a question related to the Walstad natural planted tanks. I see some people adding some egg shells or oyster shells to the top of the soil right before adding gravel. WHat is the purpose of this? I know it is to add calcium and magnesium etc, but is it because their water is soft? Or do they do it for another reason like keeping GH and KH stable? If I didn't add any to my tank would I be ok?
