Question for those that have kept the more aggressive cichlid pairs - I finally got a female festae for my 2 males (female is about 6" and males are 7" and about 8-8.5"). I had them in the same tank with the female divided off for the past week. She dug under the divider earlier today and got over to the males.

My home office is in the room, so I saw it happen. No real issues, but there has been a good amount of chasing and some lip locking. Would you say to leave them all together overnight or do I put the divider back up and try again tomorrow under my supervision?

At that size, I'd have two dividers in the tank with the female between them. Maybe in time you'll see that she favors one over the other. Instead of having her with the two of them where they're more likely to fight over her.

I kind of like this idea. Never thought to divide into thirds with her in the middle. I'll try that with a clay pot on both inside walls so I can see if she prefers one or the other.

I'd defo keep them divided buddy, divided in 3 with the female in the middle that way it will be easier to determine which male she prefers by which side of the tank she's at, and paying most attention to , also this will minimise damage to all party's, if you do put them together just make sure you supervise them at all times or you could end up with some damaged or even worse dead fish
