I've heard a few people saying wait a while before adding fish to a planted tank.

Why is this?

In recent months I've added a few plants to my big tank, with fish already in it obviously.

No problems - why is it advised to wait before adding fish?

I've never heard that, I always just put them in, no problems.

me too, but in starting a new tank it will probadly give the plants a chance to set roots and be able to cycle your water for you, but thats just a theory.

Yes, i think it is some where to that extend for an ALL PLANTED TANK.

If you are setting up a new planted tank, some chemicals release by the substrate & plants by kill the fishes.

Besides, with new plants, more CO2 maybe needed to stimulate growth. Fishes would suffocate in this environment.

That is what i think.

It is for the health of the plants and fish. The plants need extra amounts of nitrogen, and more light. The grace time is just to allow the plants to set roots, and secure their spots. If you put fish in too soon the fish can uproot the plants. This is only for heavily planted tanks.

I am one who waits just a couple days between adding plants and then the fish, If nothing else it lets me check for hitch hikers like hydra or insect larvae.
