Alright guys I need some input. I have someone coming to get my 180 today and I will have to move the inhabitants into a 125 gallon tank. As soon as the 180 is moved a 300 gallon will be moved into its place. I want to move the fish back from the 125 into the 300 in the same day if at all possible. I have a plethora of filters to use on the 300. All of these filters have been running on various tanks for months. Unless I am advised otherwise I would be putting a FX5, 2 XP2's, Fluidised Sand Filter, Three big sponge filters, and a wet dry running about 2000 gph which will also have pre-seeded filter medium. Would I be safe to move the fish into the 300 today or would someone out there advise against this. The bioload in the 300 will start off relatively low. Two Dats about 8-9", 14" Tigrinus, Gold wolfish and a Jardini. I think it would be safe to do this but I would feel awful if I lost these fish.:( Thanks everyone

I think you are on the right track. Using the "Old" filters is smart. I would suggest taking as much water as possible from the loaner tank and putting into the new tank. Other than that, sounds like you will be OK.

just make sure you use as much of some old water as possible along with all them already seeded filters. we did a "tank swap" for a jardini recently, put the jar in a huge bucket, drained the tank into buckets, moved it, put the new tank filled it with the old water, added the rest with tap water, put the filter back on it, fish looked okay at first, went to lfs to buy some other stuff n came back to a dead jardini...

what we did wrong was we didn't add any kind of dechlorafier(sp) and the amount of new water compared to old water was like a 90% water change. the jardini went into shock or something.

I just did a similar move... I second everything everyone else said

PLUS I would also let the filters run or use something to airate the water in the 300 for AT LEAST a couple of hours before making the move. That could have also been the reason for the above death.

If it's possible to hold off on moving the Tigirinus for a couple of days, I would wait.

You don't need to worry about moving water from the other tanks. Just get it filled, the temp is right, and start a couple drips running. After about an hour, start adding everyone. You should be fine, but to be on the safe side, do a 50% water change every other day for a week.

and post some pics

Would adding a shot of Cycle (or some such) help things along? The less peril for the fish the better. And some Prime for the chlorine?

it can be done.. my brother and i have done simulare things with our snakeheads.. it would be less stressful for the fish if you catch them in a black trash bag with water in it instead of using a net and taking them completely out of water.. when you do fill up your 300 gallon tank use as much of the water from your existing tank as possible.. have fun doing all that, lol

Been working on this since noon. Tank will leave soon 300 will be filled up right after. I had to move different fish around in three different tanks to pull this off. This is my first five minute break. The stress is almost over:nilly: I will take pics once the 300 is up and running. Thanks everyone for the input
