I have an empty 90 gallon tank and I will be putting in a 5 inch very agressive jack dempsey. I also want to add some more Central Americans, but I am afraid that if I add the Jack now, he will strt to feel like he ownes the tank and kill anything I put in with him (like he has done in the past). What order should I add the fish into the tank? I know that people sometimes overstock mbunas to decrease agression, and I was wondering if it works the same in a 90 gallon. I was thinking of adding a red devil, jaguar, green terror, and a convict. I think that would be overstocking, so I probably wont add all of those fish, but those are the ones I had my eye on.
Also if you had a recomendation for any other CA cichlids that would be great.

My JD will eat just about anything that is smaller than him, so, my advice is to only put fish that are somewhat close in size. My JD does fine with a Midas, but chased a GT and Cons, but they are all different in personality. A Salvini would add some serious color to the tank and would compliment your JD well. Throw in some catfish and you are set.

Its always a tgood idea to add the most aggressive fish last. I also do it during a waterchange, rearrange the tank and leave the lights off for about 24 hrs. The only fish this doesnt work with is my evil @ss RD.

I would take the RD out and insted add a Salvini. Put the least aggressive fish in first, and work your way up to most aggressive. if need be, completely remodel the tank.

As said above least aggressive fish in first then the more aggro fish. I think that tank would be kick @$$ if you added one more large/medium sized cichlid such as a salvini, gt, or maybe a few convicts and then added some fast dithers or catfish.

I am doing the same thing with my 90. Gona try to stock it with more fish than usual to spread agression. I'd definitely add the Jack Last like everyone else has said. BUT I'd scratch the Jaguar, cause he/she'll outgrow that tank IMO.

I'd consider firemouths as well. My male does great with my Dempsey in the 90

Good luck:D

I think firemouths stay too small for a full grown jd

Ok well the Jag is out of the question because they need 6 footers soo... I say go with either the JD or GT as they will most definately get into alot of arguements. GT's don't do well with fish that look similar as they feel threatened for power. So here's what is what I say you could do. 1xJD 1xSalvini 1xcon and possibly a FM. Or this MAY work: 1xmidas 1xJD. Chances are that the midas won't work though because of the foot print. Mixing larger cichlids ( 9+inches) is not a good idea in a tank less than 6 feet. Though it can be done only with lots of patience and time. Also correct arrangements and finding the right compatable fish.
