I already have one "male" (I think) Angel that's been kicking around for the past 3 years now
used to be 2 but the second one died during an ick battle that happened while I was away :(

I'm wanting to add more but was unsure as to what a good number to add would be?
I'm thinking adding one would be bad due to aggression from the already established Angel in my tank, an addition of two might create a 2v1 scenario

I was thinking that I should add 3, that way they don't all gang up on each other

btw, its a planted 75 gallon tank that already has a good amount of fish in it, so adding something like 6 or more is not something I can do

Aim to have a group of 5 or 6, angels do best in groups and u might end up with a pair. Maybe u could trade up some of the other fish u have for angels. If u can't add 4 or 5, then 3 is the least amount of new angels I'd suggest u should add. I don't know what other fish u have there and if angels r the focus of ur tank or not, but one might end up harassed and 2 might harass the one you have.

the angels aren't the focus per say
my tank is a little bit odd but I've had success with it, the main reason I don't want to add 4 or 5 is because I already have a bigger than my hand blood parrot, trio of rainbow cichlids, and a geophagus brasiliensis, along with 5 pearl gouramies
I know its a bit unconventional to house angels with other cichlids but its worked for 3 years (originally had my angels with the blood parrot and an ebjd up until recently)
I think I'll stick with adding 3 then, see how it goes
should I be trying to avoid specific gender combinations? I'm pretty sure the one I have is a male due to having more of a hump shape on its head than other angels
thanks for the help

It is very hard to determine the sex unless they're spawning and have the breeding tubes out, other then that every other method has so far proved unreliable ( yes even the hump on the head ) So when u go and buy angels I doubt that anyone will be able to pick the gender for u unless it's a breeder and the fish he's selling u, have spawned with him. If the combo worked for u stick with it, but adding new fish can always cause complications. Ur new angels might end up being chased by the other cichlids u have in the tank, specially the blood parrot. The only potential trouble maker in ur tank that I see is the Blood parrot, if he can b removed the rest of the stock (new angels) will b fine and u could add 5 more angels and wait for a pair. Or u could remove the remaining angel u have there and add smth else instead.
As for the gender combinations, assuming u'll b able to sex them, females will always make the males fight. So either get all males or ur 1 male with all females. If u get a pair the rest will be chased regardless of gender.

so I've been looking around and doing some thinking about what I want to do with my tank

to restate what I have said before, its a planted 75 gallon tank (still planting it though but its coming along)

my current fish are
1 full grown blood parrot
1 geophagus brasiliensis that is probably a sub adult (will have some growing let to do but not to terribly much)
3 rainbow cichlids (I was wanting a pair to form but just my luck I have the bad feeling that they are all males, that or I need to wait longer)
5 pearl gourami (I'm looking for a six though but it would have to be a fully grown female so idk if thats happening)
1 endli bichir (he is fully grown and all and he doesn't mind angels whatsoever)
1 sen bichir (he has stopped growing and might have a bit of short body in him cause he is say 7" and not getting much larger)
1 pleco sp. (stopped growing at the 7" mark so I'm not complaining, he's been perfectly healthy at that size as well)
assorted mystery snails/mts (I like my snails in there though, and surprisingly enough my cichlids leave them alone)
and then of course my 1 gold angel

I do weekly water changes and my tank is running 2 eheim 2217's, and I'll be honest, I've had a lot more bio-load happening in this tank than I currently do now, and it was all going well until a heater decided to go on the fritz and heat the tank to 98F for 3 days while I was at college (was not a fun thing for me to come home to)

I was thinking of getting at least 3 more angels and then perhaps experimenting with trying to keep a group of swordtails/mollies/platties in the tank and then another group of some sort of small tetra such as diamond tetras (I say experimenting cause my bichir would most likely eat them, but hey, you never know, I kept him with a 2 inch ebjd back in the day that he was fine with and let grow up with him for 3 years)
However, I am realizing that the tetra thing probably won't work due to my not wanting to put down a lot of money into something that very well would just become a snack for my other fish. I was thinking that perhaps I could fit 6 angels in this tank, but if that's too much (I'm honestly not sure if it is) then I would just stick to 4

tl:dr, think this tank can handle/not look absurd with 5 more angelfish, or would that be pushing it and I should leave it at 6?
Hopefully in the next few days I can get a fts up, since I want to do a thread on the progression of my tank anyways
