Hi all! You have all been such a BIG help to me, through setting up my new tank. Now I have yet another question..... I am running an Emperor 400 on my 55. Everything seems to be fine. But with the 2 Oscars and Pleco, I went out and bought an Emperor 280 to add to my filtration. Question is: Am I going to get another bacterial bloom, since this is new equipment? And if so, how can I minimize it???

u shouldnt. i always have extra filtration on all my tanks, what i always say there can never be to much.:)

as long as the established filter is still running a new filter wont hurt a thing:)

Sounds to me like you've got a good filter setup going. I have been working on establishing my recently-acquired 55 gallon tank, (which should be ready to go tomorrow! :D ) and I'm running the emperor 400 and a rena filstar xp3. The emperor 400 is a lot louder than my xp3... do you notice a bit of excess noise coming from yours? I had the same problem when I got my penguin 100 way back when I started out my 10 gallon... but then after it had been in service for a while it seemed to be just fine.

i had an emperor 400 before on a 50 gal tank. for me the noise/sound come's from the spray bar and the impeller. mine didn't really bother me a lot. my xp3 is very quite after i knew the trick (cleaning). since the biowheels are rolling and the impeller is actually expose to water and air, the emperor does have more sound compared to a tight sealed xp3. :)

correct me if i'm wrong...xp3's bio is anaerobic and emperor's bio is aerobic.:)
