Hi all,

My friend has a couple of unhappy 7" Oscar's in a 55g tank, and i would like to re-home them into my tank. I would like to know if there will be a problem with the two Oscar's I currently have in my tank already? Will there be any aggression?

I have 6x2x2 sumped tank with alot of pond media in there, so I'm hoping I have the correct filtration to house the four oscars. I also have a RTC and a couple of 6"-7" orange Sevrums.

Thanks

i think your tank is already overstocked as it is, and hopefully that tank is only a grow out for a very small RTC since they can pretty much get as large as that entire tank. without the RTC you could MAYBE add one of the oscars but even then that is pushing it with the bioload Os are extremely messy fish, with adding 2 at the same time instead of one though you will have better chance of aggression getting spread around but if your Os are a pair then they will definitely not accept any new and large Os into their tank

Thanks for your input guys. I inherted the RTC with the tank and he has grown from 5" to 10", I have tried to offload him but the people interested have smaller tanks, so I refused to sell him. I am waiting for someone with a larger tank to come round, if not then I may upgrade my tank. Will he be happy in a 7x3x3 tank as I know someone who is selling a tank this size.

you can house the oscars but not the RTC..

yeah RTC need a pond not a tank, they can get to 5ft long (if not longer) so def need something AT LEAST that wide, they are awesome cats but unfortunately get so huge they really shouldnt be as commonly available as they are :(

I'm going to be one to voice a bit of concern about adding the oscars. Oscars can be REAL aggressive towards each other, if they are not a mated pair, or if they have not been put in the same tank, at the same time... at a young age, even then. I'm not saying it is impossible... but I am not so sure those oscars will get along. My gut tells me this is asking for trouble.

Just my two cents though.

If you do add them, I would add them right after a water change and re-arrange the decor of the tank. This seems to help sometimes with there being no one that has their spot in the tank at that time and everyone pretty much re-establishes themselves in the tank.
