I currently have 3 red bellies in a 84gal long (72x15x18) I want to add more red bellies but the biggest I can get are around the size of 50 cent piece, mine are about 4 inches long now, is there a safe way to add the new ones and minimize the chances of them getting eaten? What have you done succesfully to add new p's to your tanks.

also I plan on adding maybe 4 more for a total of 7 does this sound good??
:):):):):):)

Personally, the only way IMO to do this would be to have a separate tank and grow the babies out. The 4" ones will slow down their growth around the 7" mark or so and during this slow growth period is when the babies catch up. I would wait until they are within a inch or two of each other and then add them in.

When adding them I would take out all the current P's and rearrange the decor, then place all the P's in at the same time so they can all establish their new territories.

If you are planning on keeping 7 reds, you MAY need to get a larger tank, but that 84g does have a pretty nice footprint. Soooo if you have lots of filtration and do lots of water changes you MAY be OK.

Good luck!

I havent bought the last four that I want to add it could end up being three more, thats still up in the air. current filtration is two emperor 400 but once I get all the fish in there or they get more size on them I will be adding a wet/dry as well. thanks

you could use a divider. just go to the hardware store and look in the lighting section for egg crate. I think that the small fish won't fit through but be sure to check.
