I bought myself a RBP several months ago, he was the only one in the store, and was about 2-3". As they're a shoaling fish...I was contemplating getting a larger tank to allow me to add several more Ps, so that I can have a group. Do RBPs readily accept others joining them, or are they likely to kill each other?

Thanks,
Paul

I don't know about other people, but when I had mine by himself for a little while, he didn't take too kindly to the other ones that I added in later. Their were 4 that I added and somehow he managed to kill them 4 one by one over time, go figure.

the only way i see this possibly happening is if they are the same size and you get a couple more and then redo the tank and put all the ps in at the same time

other wise i dont see it happening

yep,,take the old one out,,rearrange your setup nd do a water change then put them back in...and hope for the best...:naughty:

Just be prepared to lose 1 or 2...now I tend to add a silver dollar each time I add a P...been successful in not have P's get eaten but the silver dollar

It might work and it might not.

Some things to do to increase your chance of success would be to

1. Buy a larger tank
2. Re-arrange the decor
3. Lower the temperature to about 78 degrees
4. Add a few smaller fish to the bunch such as guppies or silver dollars.
5. Make sure the fish you add are the same size as the first one.
6. Put plenty of hiding spaces in the tank so they all will have a chance to establish their own territories.

Good luck!
