Hello just asking for some advice, I'm wanting to add another load of sand into my Oscar tank but the trouble is I don't have anything big enough to store him in to do it or to wait until the sand has settled. Anyone got any suggestions or types of sand that would be suitable and lessen the stress on Him? Or should I completely avoid this idea until I have a suitable container?

Rinse, rinse, repeat. Poor in. I have added sand with tank inhabitants previously without I'll effect. Just ensure you have rinsed it really well prior to adding. Also keep an eye on the temp. Adding sand rinsed in cold water can draw down the tank a few degrees.

Just done it today, wash the sand out well, grab a handful and place it in the bottom of the tank, as long as you don't just pour it in you will be fine

Make sure sand is rinsed well and add slowly. Sand such as Pool filter sand doesn't effect the ph.

use a tall cup and fill the sand there then slowly put it your tank and pour it out, less mess and easier to keep track of the sand thickness of the area.

Thanks guys really appreciate your help. My Oscars will look forward to getting my hand when I put it in I guess. :D

It would be prudent to turn off the filters while you are doing it as well (if you're using canister's or HOB's especially), just long enough to let the sand settle. Don't want a large influx of sand into the filter to damage the impeller.

I've added sand without removing the fish as well. It's not so bad.

You can try using a funnel to fill a 1.5L bottle with clean sand and cap the bottle. Open the cap under the water and squeeze the bottle to let the sand out slowly.

Another way is to get a long PVC tube and slide the sand into the tank. This way, you can aim for where you want the sand to end up at and achieve a level or an inclined grading.
