Just would like to know if it's ok to add more sand to an already existed saltwater tank. I have a 37 gallon tank with 20 lbs. of marine sand and 20 lbs. of live rock. If I add more rock will it need more sand at the bottom under it.:headbang2

Sure, it's fine to add sand. It's going to cloud the water somewhat though, so be prepared. I'd go ahead and add the sand, then wait for things to clear. Then, shake off the sand from the existing rock (it might kind of look like snow-capped mountains) and place it into the tank with the new rock.

As for sand underneath the rock, you really want the rock (at least, what's on the bottom of the pile) to be resting on the tank bottom. So, as you put the rock into the sand, wiggle it a little and wait until it feels firm. This way, you're resting the rock on something solid, rather than something that can shift and cause the whole pile to fall. Fish that move around in the sand, like eels or gobies, can make this even worse.

yes, but i would not disturb(stir it up) your existing sand unless its a relatively new tank.

Also, I'd remove the fish -- it looks like from your tank setup that you've got a few in there. Do you happen to have an empty QT tank or something that they could hang out in for a while? I'm honestly not sure if it would hurt them, but I can't imagine it's pleasant to have sand in your eyes and gills.

Yes I do have a separate place to keep them I was asking because i'm in the process of moving them to a larger tank and I was thinking of keeping the existing sand and just adding some to the new tank.
