How much do ya have to spend?

First off, trash the whisper. It's doing you no good other than wasting money on replacement media

If ya have a good budget, buy an Ehiem classic or ecco canister (120-150 USD.

If ya have less of a budget, try a Rena XP3 cannister (around 100-110 bucks USD.)

If ya have less of a budget but want great bio filtration and relitivly low media replacement costs, get an Emperor 400 (40 USD.)

Aquaclear's are great too, I'm not a fan of submersed bio-media though since atmosphear>Water in terms of oxygen content. The mechanical media dosn't need replaced though, but the bio media breaks down, good thing is ya can replace it with something perminant. (30-40USD)

BTW, those penguin filters are pretty bad too, but whisper deffinatly should go.

i am only 17 so i dont have the best income but my parents do.:D

but i have enough to get a filter around 100 bucks.I like the thought of the canisters.what about magnum 350 pro,or magnum 250 pro.I also like the emp 400.I want something with bio wheels.although aquaclear are my top favitate because of their power.so what would be the best out of that bunch.,,,,,the whisper is crappy.

IMO Emps, for the wet/dry media over aquaclear.
Our atmosphere has 20.9ppm of O2, water at 25C only has 8.4+/-. (I think, I'm having troubles finding the site that shows PPM of O2 in the atmosphere, it's either 20.9 or 209,000/ppm, 20.9 sounds closer.)

The mag 350 pro with bio-wheel filters are from what I've heard are decent.
I'm not sure how long the mechanical media lasts, or how much it costs to replace it, cost of upkeep is an important factor IMO.

Canisters are nice, but are a PITA to clean, and they're expensive. I only use them on my planted tank to preserve CO2.

Its not 20.9ppm Oxygen in the air, its 20.9% Oxygen. There is a lot more in the air which is why wet/dry filters are great.

A conversion site said to turn % into PPM devide % by .0001
That gets ya 209,000ppm.
That's where it seems my math isn't adding up. 8.4ppm in water and 209,000ppm in air seems a little off to me (So I took a guess and moved the decimal over.) I should of payed more attention in school.

Now that I think about it, 209,000 is 20.9% of a million. I need my head examined.

In a 75gal tank You dont have many choices if any for large cichlids. Your RD needs a lot of room and is very territorial and can destroy the average cichlid. Whatever you decide to do make sure the fish is around the same size and has some attitude.
