where my cichla are
i'm sure most of you know about my Dozer and his best buddy Pinky the arowana.

well, a week ago i got 2 very handsome C. Temensis and i want to add them to Dozer's tank. I'm afraid since Dozer has been the head pbass, in his tank since we got him that he'll have trouble accepting the tems.

Are pbass territorial? Do i need to worry about someone getting hurt? I really love these new tems, they are beautiful and i seriously don't want any of my fish to get hurt.

i can deal with some posturing and gill flaring to establish pecking order, but i can't deal with any of them intentionally hurting each other.

what do ya all think? Should i put them in with Dozer? or should i keep them separated until we stock the 240?

They were fine w/my Mono's and all my other fish. Actually having two Tems in the tank somewhat calmed the other down. They would always just hang out together. I would carefully watch those two Tems. You'll see which is the dominant of the two. One is much more submissive. I heard they get more aggressive as they get older so just watch for aggression towards other fish.

However, introducing them to a community setting at an early stage would probably be better than waiting. These Tems has been housed with a variety of fish w/no problems.

When i add fish to an established tank I always rearrange my decor and keep the tank dark for atleast a day. Hope that helps.

Joey,

thanks.. that helps a lot, i forgot to ask you if they had had tankmates before.. my big concern is that i don't want anyone to get hurt.

i'm going to take cichlid savage's advice and remodel the big tank, the castle needs to be moved again anyway, the 3 tailed **** machine and the crayfish have messed up the sand and made pits under it..

so we'll get all that done, rearranging the tank.. move the castle and the sand and rocks around, and replant the plastic plants.. lol. Then we'll move the tems tonight just before feeding time.. and see how it goes.

thanks everybody.. we'll take new pics and let ya all know how it goes.

You really have to love all of this WE crap...She watched the first part of the operation from the computer but headed back to bed (recovering from surgery) part way in. LOL

Anyway the tanks more or less finished and everything seems to be fine. They all get along famiously and the tank now has a lot more open swiming space in the middle. (I'll post some pictures after a while.)

The snooks seem to have been inspired to start up their spawning dance again.

ok... as my darling hubby pointed out, i'm not much help other than ideas at the moment.. lol.

here are pics of the new set up in the big tank with the new tems in with Dozer, Pinky and the snooks.

thanks, my hubby has great taste.. he married me!!! lol. seriously, he did a great job moving everything around, i really like the way it turned out. And as a result of all the major changes we got snail eggs and the TSN is spending more time out and being more friendly.. so it's all good!!!

i was VERY pleasantly surprised that Dozer and the new tems are getting along so well.. they all look great swimming around together too.
