So my grandma took a trip to the beach and knows how I like driftwood for my tank so she found a piece washed up to shore and grabbed it for me.

I have no idea if this is safe, how much would I have to clean it to add? To much risk even doing it? Thanks.

If it looks really sun bleached chances are it will not leach, mine didnt.

The salt of the ocean will 'cure' the wood... most of the tannic acid will have leached out while drifting int he ocean... the sun will bleach the wood and further cure the wood...

All in all, true "drift wood" needs very little treatment at all...

Keep in mind most things that thrive in saltwater will die in freshwater... not to mention most things that thrive in submerged conditions quickly die in dry conditions...

While the process that Zebvance used removes pretty much all risk, simply ensure it has been both salt water saturated and then sun baked makes it very likely to be completely safe.

Zebvance, awesome piece of wood and beautiful tank... AOmonsta, I look forward to seeing your driftwood as well as your tank decorated with it...
