Adding planting substrate to an established tank

Ok so this is hypothetical but let's say I have a tank with a few plants in pots on gravel. Is it feasible for me to add aquasoil without breaking down the tank and restarting it (fish included)?

You won’t want to add it outright. Aqua soil and many other soil based substrates will not only make a huge mess, they leach ammonia the first few weeks.

So... Lets say i let it soak in bucket with a filter
(basically cycling it)?
