Looking to add some live plants for decorations. I have a thin layer of sand but the stingrays always stir it up so I wanted to attach the plants to my driftwood. Any recommendations for plants? And how would I attach them to the driftwood? I'm going to replace my old T12 lighting and was thinking T5 HO covering the length of the tank.

Thanks for the replies.

So I should start off with some anubias and java fern. I had Java moss before and they took over the tank rather quickly. Some floating plants would be great as long as the roots don't hang down too low looking looking like jelly fishes. Which plants would fit for me? I want low maintenence plants where I don't have to worry about nurtients and co2.

Is two T5 HO lights running the length of my tank too much? I'm worried about too much lighting causing algae problems. Or would regular T5's be sufficient?

Depends on how many watts each fixture is and the size of your monster aquarium. Usually for low light plants you want .5-2 watts per gallon. Anubias grow REALLY slowly, for the Anubias Nanas I have in my tank its one new leaf every 2 weeks but for my Anubais Coffeefolia and Hastifolia it's one new leaf every 3-4 weeks. But I think that Anubias's look nice.

I have never had Java Ferns or and Java Moss, so I am no help there.

For monster tanks I think there is no better plant than Horn Wort.

Its a natural floater but can be tied lightly to driftwood. It needs nothing but fish waste and light to grow well. It can get 3-4ft in length and is a nice color green. And as a added benefit it is a nitrate eating monster and grows rather quickly after it settles in.

IMO if you can get up around .7-1 watt per gallon of light covering your tank. And its in a 6500k-10,000k color rating then you will have no problems with Horn wort or other low light plants.

Frogbit and is what i use in my tank, big round leafs with not alot of root but it still looks nice , it multiplies fast and will cover my 10 gallon in about a month but you just scoop it out and throw it away or..feed it to turtles my mothers sliders and my big Ryukin love to eat it.

recently got some water lettuce as well it looks neat but has bushier roots and darker oval leafs
