Hi, I have currently have 1 RBP at about 5", who's been in a 20 gallon since he was less than an inch. And I wanted to add more red bellies with him.
Can I add more RBP's?
How many should I add?
What size tank would I need to upgrade to?

Thanks.

Hey how are you man....I'm new to this but I can tell you that a 20 gallon might be way too small for your piranha....I'm not sure about what size. You should up grade to but maybe a 75......make sure the new fish you add are around the same size or they might become food

Biggest tank you can afford. Remember footprint is about all that matters with em since they can get territorial and all like to have their own "spot" for war breaks out. I had 4 in a 100g 6' tank. I'd say full grown adults should have roughly 2sq. Ft. Each. Example 4 or 5 in a 125g should be good. Remember the bigger the shoal the better the fish act. I was seriously thinking of getting like 25 caribe for my 500g but went another route

From experience...

I had 2 rbp in a 20 long when they were babies... (1-3")

I put them into a 125g tank...
bought 3 more rbps... the same size roughly...

Rearranged the tank and put them in there...
I had to rearrange the tank about 3 more times in the
first month so the piranhas would not be territorial..

Also introduced a RB pacu... all are alive and kicking and are now between 5 and 8"
in length...

The rule of thumb when dealing with RBP, ternetzi, caribe, etc... (schooling piranha-Pygocentrus)
20g per fish... but the footprint is the important thing like brich999 said
