adding salt

Since you added meds already, focus there and don't add anything else.

no do not add table salt. most table salt is iodized salt which is not healthy for your fish. rather go out and spend the small amount of money on aquarium salt.

i would add salt as well. i had clown loaches one time and they kept getting ich. eventually i just turned the heat up, added salt with every water change and kept it up fairly high for about 2 months. after that i had no more issues with ich on my clowns again.

ps. just to let you know that i also tried medication and salt at the same time. it did no harm...

This is a myth used by companies to debunk the use of table salt which is a lot cheaper in the long run. It doesn't matter whether table salt has iodide and additives or not. Table salt has been in use for several years already with no ill results contrary to the claims parroted by people eager to believe them.

Besides, FW fish also need iodine (which in the table salt is iodide so completely different) otherwise they are at high risk of suffering goiter which fortunately is rare as there are iodine traces in most water sources with the exception of reverse osmosis where the nutrients have been stripped off their element traces completely.

yeah i have heard of this as well as read many articles on it and articles to the opposite. i wouldnt take the risk either way especially with clown loaches as they are very sensitive fish.

There is nothing wrong with using table salt for clown loaches. I keep plenty of loaches myself and have used table salt a few times for ich along with a few others whom I had helped with very good results. There is no reason to avoid table salt. Blame it on the "convincing" tone taken up by companies that made "aquarium" salt to profit them better and cause paranoia and confusion about its use.

One thing to remember however is always dissolve the salt and add slowly when you treat your fish. Any fish can get their skin burned upon contact of salt grains. Adding salt all of a sudden will cause osmotic shock as the electrolytes increase dramatically thus their osmoregulatory system fail to adjust to the change in amounts of electrolytes.

Thanks for the info,i added salt, all looks well,no white spots but still a bit of flicking, how long before they stop flicking
Give it a full week. Ich may still be there even if they appear to have disappeared.
