Currently have the following in my 55G: 2 x Male Convicts (3-4"), 8 x fully grown Tiger Barbs, and one 2" Red Tail Black Shark. I was thinking about the possibility of adding 1-2 more small/medium size Central Americans (non-convict). What are some colorful options that wouldn't overly stress my current occupants?

Firemouth or Jewel might work. I don't know how aggressive either of those are, but they stay on the smaller side at around 6in. Keep in mind your cons WILL mate with any female an that will lead to all out war in a 55.

Personally I would worry about water quality issues down the road, assuming everyone gets along... Four 6in fish an eight full size tiger barbs seems like a lot of poo for a 55.
