hey guys,
can i add a grp of pacu or oscar into my pluero tank?
tank is 240gal
inhabitants of the tank as of the moment:
2x pluero approx 7" ea
1x G. gourami approx 8 inches
1x spoted gar 12 inches

TIA

Pacu no....they grow absolutely huge, oscars, i would either stick with one maybe a pair, though not sure on aggrestion of the gar or gourami, saying that gourami grow huge, ive heard they can be quite grumpy, but as to the pleuro,i kept mine with a pair of oscars, never had any issues what so ever, out of snakeheads i think its vertually on pluero and maybe parachanna obscura i would says ok to keep in a community based tank....

yeah, im scrapping the Pacu idea.. saw a pic of a local zoo here in manila, their Pacu was massive! like 3ft+ and thick.. scary monster o.O
ill just stick with Oscars or maybe adding other kind of mid size channa?

and yes, the bully in the tank is the gourami but i think they are pretty much get along now-a-days.

Chronik, how big is your pleuros and oscars when you put them in the same tank? wouldn't the oscars bully the pleuros when they get bigger? i think oscars mature faster than pleuros.

pleuros grow [in my oppinion] quite quickly until they reach about 12 inches and by that time 6 pleuros will easily be able to fend for themselves against the oscars. i put my pleuros in when they were about 6" with oscars which were also around 6" [although keep in mind a 6"
oscar is much larger than a 6" pleuro]. at the moment my snakeheads range from 14-8" and my oscars range from 7-9". On thing i did notice is that the pleuros are much MUCH too fast for the osarcs to catch, so make sure you have some cover for the pleuro to hide behind and the oscar shouldn't be able to bother the pleuro.

thanks for the advice chronick! ill keep them in mind when i decide to put in oscars with my slooow growing pleuros.. btw, what are you feeding them? recently got them to feed on pellets.
if i decide to add oscars, is it ok if i add 2-3 inch oscars with my pleuro now or should i grow them out 1st, then add to the tank?
TIA

im not sure... i know that when pleuros are together they can be really nasty especially when they sense another fish is sick of stressed. i had a giant 12" synodontus eruptus that was in the tank with them and im not sure why but the next day i found the catfish upside down with a huge chunk of flesh missing from him. I would be more worried for the Oscar than the pleuro in most cases. How big are your pleuros?

my pleuros are still small around 8-9 inches.. its okey for other fish to die just not my pleuros! i love them hahaha
i found someone hows going to sell me his oscar fries cheap so im not worried about them :D
