Currently I have a 220 gallon (72"x30"x24") comm with the following fish:

1x 17 inch Polypterus Endlicheri
1x 12 inch Polypterus Ornatapinnis
1x 10 inch Polypterus Palmas Palmas
3x 12-14 inch Mono Pbass
1x 13 inch Golden Dorado

Aside from some slight chasing and a few frayed fins the fish get along for the most part except for the pbass are much more aggresive at feeding time and the dorado doesnt eat as much as it probably could but its very strong stable and healthy.

Now I was wondering if it would be possible to add a 6-7 inch Hoplias Malabaricus to the mix.... I know they are very aggressive but I've seen them in comms and think he/she would do well lying down with the bichirs especially as I add to the pile once I hook up my second FX5 to my tank.

Here are my questions regarding the wolf fish as I have never kept them before.

1. What should I expect at feeding time/when the lights are off/if he or she is attacked by a tankmate (like the Dorado)
2. I have a glass top... what else should I do to prevent him from jumping alot?
3. Can I add another wolffish eventually? Most likely a curupira.
4. Would silver sides and massivore be a good staple along with the occasional live feeder goldfish 1-2 time a month?
5. I keep my tank at 82-84 degrees F at all time and feed pretty heavily daily and do 10-20% water changes every day....what type of growth should I see on this guy??

Thanks for reading.-Ryan

I wouldnt... They are worse then jags... My jag has killed everything in the tank bigger, smaller same size no matter what ive put in... TWICE ! (ive tried putting other cichlids and fish the same size or bigger in twice now....)

wolf fish are called monsters for a reason :0)

In short I would say this is a terribad idea!

If you're dead set on trying, the biggest factor in if this will work is how the fish has been raised so far. If its grown in solidarity then you shouldn't add it to your tank. Once they've grown accustomed to living alone they will not tolerate anything else in its space.

I used to have a purple wolf with a lap, delhezi, senegal and a weeksi and they did fine together, but it all adds up on how the wolf tolerance level is
Right now I have a ornate bichir that is 5inch with my purple wolf its about 8.5inch now.

I had a mala in with a brycon and a dorado and it worked out fine with occasional fights between the wolf and brycon....and right now I have a curupira with 4x azul pb, 3x bichirs, 3x mylossoma aurem, and a vulture cat......no torn fins or aggression.

anyone else with more emphasis on the behavioral aspects of the wolf fish? Especially concerning my 5 questions towards the end of the thread. Thanks for reading and especially any experience based feed-back.-Ryan
