In my 300 i currently have: 1 silver aro, 1 jardini, 2 green terrors, 2 oscars, and a Lima shovel nose. Would any of the cichla sp. fit in with this group? Obviously I'm talking of equal or comparable size so it's not just fodder. One of the gt's could go. I've never kept them before and have become really interested lately.

It could work...if youve got really good filtration and maintenance habits. What are the dimensions on your 300? These guys like wider and longer tanks rather than tall.

i bought it used and have come to realize it's custom: 6'x2.5'x3'. wish it was and 8 footer, oh well. I do 50% every 5 days and am running a w/d and 2 ac500

With those dimensions it would really depend on the current size of your fish. With 5-6 fish I wouldnt consider that a lifetime tank for Cichla. But, ive seen some REALLY crowded tanks with healthy fish. Im just not much into the crowding thing, Ide rather have a few fish in a large tank than too many fish in a gigantic tank. But thats just me ;)

yeah none of them are too big, the silver is getting there. what species would you recommend?

If you are new to these guys ide go with something common like a Mono or Occelaris. See how it works out for you

cool. thanks for the help man.

i reckon should go with mono or ocel as well..

This the tank you have the 29 inch arro in?

The tank is 30 inches wide?

Wow when that big boy turns around he almost touches both sides, not to mention he is almost half as long as your tank..........impressive fish
