Trying to find a new addition to my tank, or tanks. Trying to find something that will help keep alge off my glass, as well as rocks. Not sure if a pleco or something like that will work or not. I am having trouble trying to keep brown and green alge under control. Any thoughts or suggestions would help.

Seems like I will clean the glass every week now, this is where the brown stuff (alge), grows. The rocks are where the green develops...thought about adding another member to my tanks to maybe eat some of this or something...........:help2:

Work on the things that promote the growth first.

Water conditions can help contribute toward algae growth, what is your water change routine like? I find when I keep my tank cleaner the algae growth is much slower.

Reduce lighting by using a timer on your lights and cover widows that let light shine directly on your tank. Then again I also have a UV which helps with free floating algae and seems to make the type that grows on things much slower.

Otherwise try out the good ol bristle nose pleco.

Try to do a weekly change in all tanks. Usually keeping up with the brownish growtrh. Tried reducing the amount of time I keep the lights on, but this doesn't seem to be helping much.

55 gallon with green terror, peacock bass, and jack dempsy. 2 10 gallons with african fry. 30 gallon with 5 african cichlids. I also have a 50 gal breeder tank not setup yet.
All fish, (with exception of fry) are 2 to 3 inches in length.

So the 55g is the problem tank? That is a lot of potentially large fish for a 55g esp the bass which will outgrow that tank very soon. Other things I would be looking at are the amount of food at feeding. Could you be overfeeding? Do you have a lot of leftover that helps to contribute as fuel for algae growth?

Do you have a water test kit? What are your water parameters? You could also be under filtered. What are you running for filtration?

Try more frequent water changes using a gravel vac to remove uneaten food and fish waste.

Plecs are notoriously lazy and won't even eat algea after they get past a decent size, never mind the fact they will quickly out grow your tank and add huge bio load. If you insist on a plec go for a bristle nose. As per previous comments your tank is overstocked so if you want to keep your levels decent start with at least 50% weekly water changes on a regular basis and get a decent filter with high flow rate e.g. FX5
