I've read all the threads and stickies on ick. I know the best treatment is heat and salt. I stil have a few questions..

My tank is 150gal.. I hear varying things on how much salt to put in. In tbsp, how much salt should I be putting into my tank? Should I dissolve the salt in a pitcher of tank water first or just put it in?

Also heard varying things about temperature. I have pretty hearty fish with the exception of my pictus cats.. between 84-92 are temps I've heard but I worry about making it too high. What's ideal temperature?

Tank contains blood parrots, silver dollars and rainbowfish mostly..

I'm at work but my spouse at home has treated with salt and bumped the temp.. I just want to double check since we are worried about our fish.

had a really bad case of ich 2 months ago. bumped my temp to 84-86 and added 1 tsp of salt per gallon, pre-dissolved in a bucket evryday for the first week and every other day for the next 2 weeks. cleared everything up really well and i havent had another problem since.

So for me.. about 150 tsp.. or 50 tbsp.

Please correct me if I am wrong. I need to go buy more salt today in preparation for the treatment. Also need an additional air pump.

I've heard of throwing in some stress coat or melafix to help.. does this do anything?

Boyfriend told me that he cut the lights in the tank (at my suggestion) with his salt treatment and they seem to at LEAST be swimming more at ease. I'm crossing my fingers.

Just checked on the fish and they seem to be swimming just fine, except for one pictus who seems to need air :( But quite a few of them have spots.

I know it will be a while but I am worried and crossing my fingers.

Going to lower my water level slightly to add more splash. Was recommended by a fish keeping friend who always has given me good advice. Also will be doing a water change today after work before doing another salt treatment.

I just want to make sure I am doing right by the fish.
