I have a 110g and a 50g freshwater tanks. Just your basic community fish.
I live in the country/farmland and thus use well water that is not the greatest. All of my tank water is taken from my RO/DI unit. I am currently using Kent's R/O Right as an additive for topoff water and for doing water changes. Is there another product, besides Equilibrium, that is cheaper or some other item that I can use to do the same thing that R/O Right does?

Thanks,
winland

Does your water have realy high nitrates? Depending on the fish you keep, you might be able to avoid the R/O and additives all together. I have kept cichlids, puffers, plecos, and catfish in pretty hard, 35ppm nitrate farm water out of the tap, for about a year.

I need to ask this -

What is the problem with the use of R/O water?

I dont understand what the problem would be to fish?
I mean as long as you make sure the water has some way to add air so the fish can breathe , whats the problem?
If my plants are plastic they dont care...so what is in R/O water that could harm a person's tank?

Its not what's in the RO water, but what is not in the water. Apparently the complete lack of minerals is not so good either.. depending on your fish, you'll need to fortify the water some to make up for it. I think most people use the RO water just to lower the PH and minerals... but you suppliment it with normal water that still has the minerals.

Basically, you don't want JUST RO water all by itself....
