i haven't even thought about looking into this before i just read it i on a thread but: I have a 65 gal with a 6 inch Oscar and a pleco about the same. I do 40% water changes weekly and use a dechlorinate that also has fish coat supplement with aloe. Do i need to us more additives? the thread said something about a mineral block

just use prime

Just Prime here

I just use a very basic dechlorinator. Mine doesn't even take out heavy metals. Once I run out, I'll probably switch to Prime as well as I've heard lots of good things about it. If I'm not mistaken, Prime is made by Seachem.

I wouldn't worry about adding too many supplements. It seems like a lot of aquarium products are there for the manufacturers to make more money. If you know what you are doing, you can cut out a lot of unnecessary products and save yourself money. For example, the Marineland filter cartridges they recommend you change every 4 to 6 weeks or whatever? I haven't used them in my filters in about 5 years. Activated carbon? I have it on hand in case I need it, but I don't regularly run it in any of my filters.

Agree with all the above. Use Prime and don't add any other chemicals unless absolutely necessary.

Yeah, that aloe stuff is a waste of $$$. I'd up those water changes to 50% weekly.

I'm not huge on prime. basically b/c it's not readily available for some reason around me.

But It is really the only thing you need. I do like the stress coat for adding new fish though. It may not do that much but it does give me a little peice of mind.

Just use a good dechlor and your set:)

If your no experiencing any problems and don't foresee any (as fish fighting or water quality problems) don't put anything extra in the tank, just dechlor the water and know your fishes behavior.
