Hey all, just got a 225 gal tank thats slowly starting to get up and runnin. All I have now is a South American Pike Cichlid (any idea what that is?) but what I really would want in it is an arowana. First of all, is a 225 (72" x 18" surface area) large enough for ANY arowana? Its going to be a hassle to get one here in alabama (at least i can get them, couldn't get pirhanas) but if its a shot, I'm all for it. Thanks

must be a high tank then to be 225g .... unfortunately 18" is too narrow for any aros except african butterfly fish. The tank you have is comfie for one year and pushing it for two years

i know a couple of pike cichlids but arnt a lot of pike cichlids are from SA a pic would help a whole lot

that tank is small for an aro

That's an odd shape...I can personally attest to the problems of trying to keep a big aro in a 6'x18". The cramped spaces make them incredibly nervous and prone to freakouts, jumping, face smashing. The difference in a 24" wide is amazing.

40" high tank, not likely. Are you sure about the tanks volume? Too narrow for any large arowana either way.

SO sorry, meant to put down that it is a 125 gal. Dont know why I was thinking 225, maybe i'm just wishing too much. Also, the pike cichlid.... no pics yet but this looks similar: http://www.geocities.com/NapaValley/5491/johannapage.html. I'll try to send you another pic that i'll take, but send me a pm for that. Oh well, guess getting the Arowana is out, i'll just have to find something else to replace my fav fish! To the general forum!!!!!
