hi, if you are an adonis owner i would like to know about their behavior, what size they average at, how much they eat, their lifespan (average) and their behavior towards other 20-40 inch size catfish and pleco, thanks!

I'm on my second adonis, the first died of bloat. So watch the protein! I know literature stated omnivorous diet, but why risk it? Got to have something meaty sometimes, I'm sure, but I try to keep it small and infrequent.

Their behavior is moderately aggressive. Especially about food. My first one would leave scratches on other fish who got near his food. My new one is more of a bluffer than a straight up slasher, but he definitely gets his "mean" on, for territory and for food. Mine is mean to other non-pleco cats, but seems to submit to my L200 who is even more aggressive. Provide much cavework, they are likely to chase each other into and out of holes all day.

Size is a real crap shoot. Captive specimens rarely exceed 16", and wild specimens that were larger have often have turned out to be a. hystrix upon closer examination. I've dug deep. Really deep. And most folks report slow growth after a foot, and extremely slow at that. But considering the variables, I'll leave it up to you to find out the truth!

Lifespan is not known. From general biological clues like growth rate and top size, one can safely guess 20 years. But studies have not been done, so these things might outlive goldfish for all I know.

Best of luck and you owe me pictures!
