near purple indo lake
local lfs has a 7-8" adonis with spots for $50, will pick it up friday but how do u tell if m/f, how big and fast does it grow because it will go in a 125g tank.:nilly: :headbang2 :naughty: :grinno:

i have a adonis on 5-6".. they grow realy slow but can get up to 20" if you are lucky

125g is enogh.. but dont have more than one adonis in the tank beacuse they kill eatchother if they are more than 1 in a tank..

Adonis are slow growing, expect 1-2" every 6 months. They actually attain a size of 24" in aquaria. a 125 will not be big enough for life. The spots will fade with age, sometimes completely. You CAN keep multiple adonis in the same tank, you just have to offer enough hiding places for all, just as with any other pleco species. Be wary of other species of pleco that become very aggressive, there can be extensive fighting, but very rarely does it end in death. Males and females can be deferentiated by odontode growth, if you are use to seeing the differences, as well as by the papilla. Good luck, they are a beautiful pleco, and fun to keep.

They grow VERY BIG and very slow. I had one for a year and it grew about 1.5"
They are said to get 3' in the wild. Haven't seen one past 1' in person yet.

I have seen a 23" adonis. It was powerfed, and huge! It's pectoral fins spanned 15", and it still had spots!

post pics please!!!!!!! would love to see this fish:popcorn: :headbang2 :WHOA:

It belonged to a guy that lived out in Tacoma a few years back. He moved out east, but I'm not sure where exactly, somewhere in the philly area I think.

what do you mean by powerfed..do you mean he forced fed the Adonis? Like they do with chickens and geese to put on the weight..why would someone do that ???

i would imagine he meant fed well. as in gave it a fair amount of food. i would imagine it to be hard to force feed a pleco. theyre hungary all the time anyway. if it was that badly treated, it wouldnt have got to 23" ;)
