I am leak testing used tank i picked up now, 180 BF
My previous tanks have been saltwater reef, but I have always wanted to give Discus a go.

My first choice is a Discus tank with a fall back of Angels.

So with 8 - 5" Discus is once a week 80% enough for water changes

Filtration will be in a sump, over filtration. Sand bottom, manzanita branches, and some amazon swords fed with root tabs.

Thanks

I think that sounds pretty good. By keeping the stock low & buying adults, you've cut the need for the massive daily WCs. If it were me, I'd probably go with2x weekly 50% instead of the one big 80% and see how it goes. I wouldn't feed beefheart with only one or two weekly WCs though. Aim to keep your nitrates less than 10.

Thanks, I will continue to gather information, I really want this to work

Right now I'm averaging 75/80% W/C every 8/10 days w/ my setup. No complications. You should be fine. "T"

Getting ready to move the tank in the house and start the cycle..
I'm still nervous, read about all the horror stories on discus, but you usually only hear the negative outcomes

So Discus or angels, I guess I have a few weeks to decide.

80% a week should be fine, but i would still run water peram tests for a few weeks to make sure that schedule is ok. i hate guessing, better piece of mind to know.

Adult discus doesn't need that frequent water change ad long as u have good filtration which u have a sump should be good lots of water change is done for younger discus Cuz breeder is trying to grow fish up big fat and fast so they feed it 6-10 times a day and with beefheart formula and beefheart foul water that's why they normally change 80-90% of water twice a day but in community show tank u don't need to do that I personally think ur 80% a week a over doing it
