I want to know what do you think about your big old gar when come to aggressiveness!
As some of you may know I have a 2ft male spotted gar, and right now I'm keeping him in a 1000G stock tank/pond with kois. Just like other big gar I see around here he is one of the most boring fish I ever have when come to feeding. He will eat anything that fall into the pond as long as it is not moving or not moving really fast. Feeding him shrimps and tilapia fillets is a big challenge, I have to use a long wire to hold the piece of shrimp/tilapia near his mouth and wait until he snap it, if the piece fall down to the bottom the koi will eat it. Yesterday I throw a cricket right on top of his mouth, the cricket try to swim away and he didn't even bother to chase after it; I have to wait until the cricket get tired and then throw it back to the gar, now the cricket can't move anymore and the gar finish it!
PS: my gar even eat flowers that fall into the pond and he hanging around with the koi with no problem!

You want it to be more aggressive?

IMO, I'd just pellet train it if it's that lazy; just be sure to use carnivore pellets rather than koi pellets.
I want to know how is other member's old gar! are they just lazy like mine or they are more aggressive?

I have noticed that the older the gar in general the less aggressive of a feeding response they have, especially if they are eating non live. For example when handfeeding my gators the biggest gars lazily swim over and ggently grap the fish. The smaller gars quickly swim over and snap at the food as fast as they can.

my floridas are waaay more lazy in reguards to eating... while my cuban feeds solidly every night, my floridas will skip nights on their own. thay are also in general alot less active, so likely burn fewer calories. both floridas where much more aggresive when i aquired them. one being a YoY so not surprizing, the other approx a yr or 2 best i can guess. doesnt matter what im feeding either, live, pellets, frozen... they just dont seem to need to eat as often.
