First of all I want to say GOTCHYA for all of you who are reading this and were about to tell me angrily and impatiently to go to the sticky or that I needed a 100000000 gallon pond/tank/public aquarium.

But I wanted to know what would be a good sized HOSPITAL TANK for a fully grown South American Redtail Catfish?

LOL,fully grown,as in four feet in length?..I take the term "fully grown" to mean that the fish is very near it's known max size and in that case I guess you'd need one of those grey Rubbermade tubs.

I guess they make them up to 500 gallons.A lot of ray keepers use them for obvious reasons and I wouldn't mind one in the three hundred gallon capacity myself but I can't get one into my basement due to the large oval shape.

12' x 5' x 3' bare minimum

i would say just enough for the fish to turn around so say 6ft by 4ft, if the fish is in the hospital tank it would be very sick or injured and the last time i checked sick injured fish dont do much swimming. also a slightly smaller tank is better for when treating with meds
