Folks with really big systems,

Thoughts on the Advantage bead-cans a la <https://sacramentokoi.com>?

The price is eye-watering even before shipping & duties, but I've had reasonable results previously on relatively low-difficulty systems. We're doing a more complicated & bigger system currently with a few filtration options, including multiples/hybrid, to get us to the 15,000 gallons needed.

Ultimately, wondering if this is the better/best system I can get that can be tucked invisible into the landscaping...

Looks similar to Ultima II filters, except they furnish the pump and charge a ton more. I'd go with an Ultima II 30,000 with a Reeflo Tiger Shark pump or two Ultima II 20,000s run by Reeflo Tiger Shark pumps. So what if you have to do a little plumbing and connect the pump to the Ultima II. With all the money I'd save, I would buy a Clarity CL-10 fresh water protein skimmer and still have some money left over. Much more filtration for less $$$

Nice, Thanks PacuMom,
Previously I've quite liked the air-blower feature on the Advantage, particularly with the cost of water around here. The villa complex's water is highly chlorinated also, thus want to be replacing as little as possible.

I'm not getting a lot of info from Advantage/SacKoi on the pump provided (yet?), but I'm also not seeing whether Reeflo will wire me a 220V - does Reeflo have their own website, or only via sellers? I like that they're saying it's the quietest on the market - this will be mounted by a bedroom wall.
I do like the "plug&play" of the Advantage, I have to admit. Client might also as I bill by the hour, so nobody wants me hanging about with the plumbing ;)

Should I be worried that the Tigershark works 55' of head-pressure? IE: what's the risk of it bursting a pipe or even the canister?

That's their web site. I've also called them they are great to deal with. pacu mom pacu mom has the right idea for sure. I don't think the pump would burst a pipe especially if it sch 40.

Edit

Not sure why that says blank template..... It should be the reeflo web site.

Advantage Bead filters use plastic solid beads like rice. Other popular bead filters uses a K1 type media.
Based on that, the tighter packing media type, the more flow restriction it will have and a bigger pump would be required. Blowers/propellers are used to break up tightly packed media. Some medias you can get by with a two speed pump for cleaning.

Cleaning bead filters are not all the same.
If the media is a floating bead and is an up flow filter, the beads need to be pushed down during backwash (reverse flow). Some companies suggest allowing the crap to settle as the media floats and heavy particle drops. The separation allows you to drain it instead of flushing it.
If the filter is a down flow then the media needs to be push up for cleaning.

What ever bead filter you pick, it will requires a lot of water to backwash thoroughly. Some filters require an UV because it cannot function without.

I take back everything I wrote. Since it's not your nickel involved, go the easy route and get a plug in system.

I only mentioned the Tiger Shark, because each Ultima II filter has a recommended max and minimum flow rate, and that pump would work for those big Ultimas. I happen to like Reeflo pumps, but honestly, my experience is very limited. My Reeflo Hammerhead pump has been running 24/7 for over 16 years. The replacement pump is still in its box. I have an assortment of Reeflo pumps for my big system which has been work in progress for years.

If you both like the Tigershark, that speaks volumes. I found the previous Advantage pump a little noisy, to be honest, and so (can) hope this will be the less-so advertised. Noise is a big factor in this project as the system won't be far from primary use areas, and for me generally/personally; I've been so pleased with the near-zero racked of my cheap'O Jebaos at home, spoiled.

I'll write Reeflo for a 220V @50hz wiring - seems like it should be doable. Thanks for the link twentyleagues twentyleagues as Google wasn't offering.

I'm fine with plumbing (was my job before grad-school) and ultimately prefer the flexibility in space-use, pipe diameters, hard corners etc. for my pedantic nature re. minutia of flow-efficiency.

Ken kendragon kendragon , I suppose the question becomes: is K1 better than the plastic bead-rice? All: If $ wasn't a consideration, which is the better?
The bead-rice does float, or at least did a-dozen-odd-years ago when we bought the first Advantage - and it still works, by the way, though it's been shut-off for shy of a decade.

One monster can doing the whole system (Ultima@20Kgal)) would be preferable to being under (Advantage@10Kgal) even with more efficient & more often backwashing, or the extra space & racket of a paired system. However, I do really like the blower...
